An experienced purchaser looks for a familiar product family; a new customer mainly knows what they want to achieve. If navigation follows technical categories alone, that second visitor first has to learn your range. Design collections around different ways of searching, with a clear connection to the same products.<\/p>\n<h2>Describe the two starting tasks<\/h2>\n<p>Make the audiences concrete instead of merely giving them marketing labels. The first visitor knows the model and wants to find the right version quickly. The second seeks a solution for a small workspace and has not yet chosen a product. These starting tasks need different labels, explanations and levels of detail in the initial selection.<\/p>\n<p>A fictional workshop equipment store might have product collections for workbenches, cabinets and lighting. Alongside them, a route for a compact garage can show products from several families. The application does not replace the product structure. Both routes provide access to the catalogue, letting an experienced buyer proceed directly while giving an exploring buyer context.<\/p>\n<h2>Give each collection its own selection promise<\/h2>\n<p>A collection page needs to explain why the displayed products belong together. For workbenches, that may be product type; for compact garages, dimensions and use cases determine the selection. Write one sentence describing that selection promise. If you cannot do so without vague wording, the collection is probably too broad or barely different from an existing page.<\/p>\n<p>Shopify is rolling out a revised collection model, so the available setup may differ between administration environments. The <a href=\"https:\/\/help.shopify.com\/en\/manual\/products\/collections\">official guide to collections<\/a> describes the current options. Choose selection rules and manual choices based on the content: a clear product attribute can support a rule, while a recommended range calls for editorial judgement. Check with real products that the expected items appear.<\/p>\n<h2>Avoid confusing audience with access<\/h2>\n<p>A route for business buyers does not itself restrict access to products or prices. Use navigation to explain relevance, and design access rules separately when needed. Otherwise, the team may think a business collection is accessible only to business accounts when it is merely another entry point to public products.<\/p>\n<p>Pay attention to product names too. A specialist term may work well in the product route but need explanation in the application route. That does not require a second product record. Add suitable explanations around the same products and keep their identity recognisable, so visitors can later find the item they viewed.<\/p>\n<h2>Check the routes with two tasks<\/h2>\n<p>Ask an experienced buyer to find a specific product type and a new buyer to make a useful selection for a situation. Have them explain aloud why they open a collection. Note unexpected interpretations. If \u201ccompact garage\u201d mainly suggests cheap products when you mean saving space, the name and introduction need to be clearer.<\/p>\n<p>A considered structure makes <a href=\"\/en\/websites-online-stores\/\">an online store<\/a> useful for different levels of knowledge without repeating the same story everywhere. Develop additional selection guidance as a content prototype first. Only when that selection really needs its own rules or calculations does <a href=\"\/en\/custom-software\/\">custom functionality<\/a> become a logical next step.
