The Medusa Next.js Starter can be a useful starting point for an online store, provided you assess it as a development foundation. Its existing screens and features give the team something concrete to work with. They do not prove that your range, payment journey and content needs fit completely. Use the starter to reveal what matches and what additional work is necessary.<\/p>\n

Check which starter you are assessing<\/h2>\n

The official Next.js Starter documentation<\/a> describes the current installation approach and notes that the older standalone starter is deprecated. Record which project foundation and versions the trial uses. An old demonstration or previously copied project may have a different starting point from the one described in the current documentation.<\/p>\n

Ask the developer for a short inventory: which elements are original, which have already been modified and which are only example content? This makes the assessment much more accurate. An impressive configurator in a modified prototype, for example, is not necessarily a standard starter feature. Always ask for separate explanations of special components.<\/p>\n

Replace the easy examples<\/h2>\n

Populate a trial with a few representative products. A fictional audio equipment store chooses a simple accessory, a device with several versions and a product family where technical explanation matters. Turn gaps into work packages<\/h2>\n

For each finding, record the product and task that revealed it. A comment such as \u201cadjust variants\u201d is too broad to assess later. This gives the development team a concrete outcome and prevents a cosmetic change from being mistaken for a resolved product question.<\/p>\n

Group findings into content, presentation and functional behaviour. Changing a colour is a different task from implementing a missing product rule. For each gap, describe the intended result and an example that can verify it. This prevents \u201ccustomise the starter\u201d from becoming one large budget item that hides fundamentally different kinds of work.<\/p>\n

Also assess whether a change can stay local or affects several components. Different product identification, for example, may affect cards, product pages and the cart.
